Care that comes to you.

Dr. Verble has been serving pets and their families across Cookeville and the Upper Cumberland for years. He founded House Call Veterinarian on a simple belief: animals receive better care when they're calm — and nothing is more calming than home.

By eliminating the stress of travel and unfamiliar surroundings, he's able to conduct more thorough exams and spend more meaningful time with each patient. Whether it's a routine wellness visit, a difficult diagnosis, or a final goodbye, Dr. Verble brings the same warmth, patience, and professionalism every time.

He specializes in house call care for dogs and cats, and is known throughout the community for his compassion and reliability.

Before the house calls.

Dr. Verble studied agriculture with a focus in small animal science at Tennessee Tech, then earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in Knoxville.

Early in his career he spent a short stretch in senior leadership at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, overseeing poultry inspection across the southern United States, before coming home to Cookeville to practice.

He still serves on Tennessee Tech's animal care and use committee, consults for the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga, and is a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he formerly served as an elder.

The ad that made it onto TV.

Years ago, a newspaper ad for the practice — headlined Pet care at home — turned up on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, in the segment where Leno read real ads aloud for laughs. Dr. Verble has also appeared on Good Morning America.

He kept the printout.

Local roots

Rooted in the Upper Cumberland.

Dr. Verble lives and practices in the same community he serves. Pictured here at a rabies clinic at Baxter City Hall, he's a familiar face to neighbors across Putnam County and the surrounding area.

That's part of what makes a house call practice work: when your veterinarian is local, knows the back roads, and treats your pets as members of the same community he calls home, the care feels different from the moment he pulls into the driveway.
